This comprehensive practice-based continuing pharmacy education program is designed to meet state regulations for pharmacist immunizers and prepare you for the immunization season.  10 hours of home study continuing education must be completed prior to this live session.  Full details can be found at www.pharmacyce.uconn.edu (click on the Immunization tab in the upper banner)

The University of Connecticut, School of Pharmacy, is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education and will award a total of 1.5 CEUs (15 contact hours) for pharmacists who successfully complete with a 70% passing grade on all post tests for the online content, present all statements of completion for the online content, participate in the live session, pass the workshop requirements and practical exam and complete a course evaluation. One knowledge-based contact hour or 0.10 CEU (ACPE #009-000-09-035-L03-P), will apply to law, ten knowledge-based contact hours or 1.0 CEUs (ACPE #009-000-09-036-H01-P) and four application-based contact hours (ACPE # 009-000-09-037-L04-P) will be awarded. A Practice-based Certificate of Achievement will be presented following successful completion of all requirements.

• Describe what Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) is and the mechanism to report adverse events
• Demonstrate how to give a subcutaneous and intramuscular injection
• Describe the proper immunization screening, vaccine information sheets, informed consent, record keeping and
   registries pharmacists would use in an immunization program
• Identify storage requirements for vaccines
• Apply current vaccine schedules to specific patient cases
• Design a “catch-up” schedule for specific patient case scenarios
• Explain current reimbursement procedures and vaccine coverage by federal, state and local entities
• Describe the current state laws governing the administration of vaccines by pharmacists
